- The upper display row shows the currently set High limit that has already been set and there is an up arrow in the middle row, the lower row shows the low limit for reference.  Pressing the ADJUST key will cause the High limit to increase in steps of 1 for each short press.  Holding the ADJUST key will cause the High limit to fast scroll.  The High limit can be increased to a maximum of 240, then it returns to 80.

- When the High limit has been set, press the SET key to move to the Low limit setting screen.  Use the ADJUST key to set the desired low limit.  In this case each press of the ADJUST key decreases the Low limit by 1, the Low limit can be decreased to 30bpm, then it will return up to the High limit value minus 5.  The low limit cannot be set closer then 5bpm to the High limit.

After the Low limit has been set, a further press of the SET key takes you to the first of the Personal Parameters setting screen.

SETTING THE PERSONAL PARAMETERS

The setting screens accept the user’s age, weight and resting heart rate.  These parameters are set in single unit steps using the ADJUST key.  The first screen allows the user to enter his/her age.

A further press of the SET Key takes you to the Weight setting screen.

In the weight setting screen, pressing the ADJUST key advances the weight in 1 kilogram (Kg) steps.  The equivalent weight in pounds (lbs) is show in the middle row of digits.

A further press of the SET key takes you to the Resting Heart Rate setting screen.

The Resting Heart Rate value is in beats per minute, and is your typical heart rate at rest before starting exercise.  Note that in this context it is NOT our lowest heart rate, which commonly occurs just before rising from bed in the morning.

A further press of the SET key takes you to the Units of Weight setting screen.

SETTING THE UNITS OF WEIGHT

The next setting screen, entered by pressing the SET key, allows the selection of metric or imperial units for Weight Loss and Fat Burn.  Pressing the ADJUST key toggles between grams (gm) and ounces (oz).  The gm is chosen, the user’s weight loss and fat burn will be reported in gm.  If oz is chosen, weight loss will be in oz (ounces and tenths of an ounce).

Pressing the SET key when in the screen causes a return to the main Time of Day screen.

At any point in this setting sequence, a short press of the light key takes you back to the previous setting screen.  A long press of the light key takes you back to the main screen.

USING YOUR PROFILE HEART RATE MONIOR

To switch ON the heart rate receiver, give a long press of the MODE key when in any Main screen (except Daily Alarm).  This will bring up a display of heart rate in the middle row of digits.  If a signal is being received from the transmitter, the heart symbol will be flashing in time with the heart rate.  If the heart rate is below the Heart Zone Low limit, the down arrow will be flashing and, if the Hear Zone sound is ON, a beep will sound in time with the heart rate.  Similarly if the heart rate is above the Heart Zone High limit, the up arrow will flash.  If the heart rate is between Low and High limits (within the Target Zone), both arrows will appear but no beeps will be emitted.

To exit from heart rate measurement, and switch off the watch’s receiver, give a another long press of the MODE key.

USING THE STOPWATCH

Press the MODE key until the small stopwatch indicator is displayed.  This function provides a simple to operate stopwatch with a resolution of 0.1 second.  The maximum duration of the stopwatch is 9 hours 59 minutes 59.9 seconds.

- Press the ADJUST key to START and STOP the stopwatch.  A long press resets the stopwatch to zero.

- Press the SET key to display elapsed hours for 3 seconds, this replaces the heart rate display.

Time in Target Zone display (small TZ indicator on watch LCD)

Press the MODE key until the Time in Zone screen appears.  The time within the target zone in hours, minutes and seconds is shown in the top row of digits, with the current heart rate below (if heart rate monitoring is ON). Accumulation of time is automatic whenever the heart rate is within the zone.  A long press of the ADJUST key resets the Time in Zone.

Switching the Target Zone Sound ON and OFF

The target zone sound symbol is visible on the display when the sound is switched ON.  The zone sound beeps when the measured heart rate is above the pre-set High limit or below the pre-set Low limit in time with the heart rate.

- A long press of the SET key toggles the sound ON and OFF

CALORIES, WEIGHT LOSS AND FAT BURN COUNTERS

The PROFILE HRM allows you to monitor estimated Calories, Weight Loss and Fat Burn on a per session basis, and also on a long-term basis by accumulating over many exercise sessions.  The PROFILE HRM uses heart rate the personal setting to calculate your exercise intensity and this is turn to calculate a Calorie rate.

The aim is to illustrate the relationship between exercise intensity and Calories.  However, this relationship can vary depending on fitness level, type of exercise and other factors.  Also, if a user is eating and therefore adding calories whilst exercising, this is not taken into account by PROFILE, so some users may get under-or over-estimates of net Calorie expenditure.

For those who wish to use the PROFILE HRM for weight management, the capability of monitoring intensity and calories gives you the opportunity to exercise at just the right level to get the best results.

With three pairs of counter screens for both short term and accumulated exercise sessions, you can choose when to reset these totals in order to monitor your exercise regime most effectively.

Autoscan-

On entry to the Calorie screen, an Autoscan function is enabled, where the three screens- Calories, Weight Loss and Fat Burn are sequenced automatically every 4 seconds.  At any time in this cycle, a press of the MODE key stops the scan at whatever screen is currently being displayed.  A further press of the MODE key advances to the Time of Day screen (Main Screen 1).

Calories-

Press the MODE key until the Calories screen (Main screen 5) is displayed.  The screen shows the estimated Calories expended due to exercise since the total was last reset to zero.

A long press of the ADJUST key will reset the Calorie counter to zero.  The Weight Loss and Fat Burn accumulations will also be cleared to zero by this action.

Weight Loss-

This screen is entered automatically 4 seconds after the Calorie screen appears.  The estimated Weight Loss is the total since the last reset, the units are grams or ounces as selected.

A long press of the ADJUST key will reset the Weight Loss to zero, and simultaneously the estimated Calorie and Fat Burn totals will be reset.

Fat Burn-

The Fat Burn screen, which appears automatically 4 seconds after the appearance of the Weight Loss screen, shows the estimated Fat Burn achieved since the last reset.

A long press of the ADJUST key will reset the Fat Burn to zero, and simultaneously the estimated Calorie and Weight Loss totals.

Accumulated Calories, Weight Loss and Fat Burn-

When in the estimated Calorie, Weight Loss or Fat Burn screens, a long press of the LIGHT key changes the display to show the accumulated Calories, Weight Loss or Fat Burn.  The word ACCUM on the screen indicates that the display is showing the accumulated total.  In a similar way, when in an accumulated total screen, a long press of the LIGHT key changes the display to show the sessions total for that parameter.

An Autoscan function is enabled on entry to any of these screens, such that the Calorie, Weight Loss and Fat Burn screens (whether session or accumulated) are sequenced automatically with a 4 second pause on each.  When Autoscan is in operation, a press of the MODE key freezes the cycle at the parameter currently displayed.  A further press of the MODE key returns to the Time of Day screen.

When in a accumulated total screen, a long press of the LIGHT key returns the display to the current session.

Resetting the Accumulated Totals-

To reset the accumulated total, make a very long press (greater than 4 seconds) of the ADJUST key when in any of the three accumulated screens.  All 3 accumulations reset to zero simultaneously.

Note that the accumulated totals are reset independently from the session totals.

Automatically switching off-

In PROFILE is in any screen and no regular heart rate signal has been received from the transmitter and no keys are pressed for 2 minutes, the watch receiver will be switched off automatically.  The heart rate display will blank and the Time of Day screen will be shown.

Bike Adapter-

The heart rate monitor can be mounted to a bicycle handlebar or exercise equipment, using the circular foam and Velcro strap.  To fit, secure the circular foam to the handlebar or exercise equipment with the Velcro strap.  Locate the heart rate monitor around this, and fasten into the desired position with the monitor strap, taking care not to over tighten.

CARE AND MAINTENANCE

- Thoroughly wipe your Profile watch receiver and transmitter, and allow the elastic strap to dry after each use.  Store your HRM in a cool dry place.

- Do not expose your HRM to direct sunlight for extended periods such as leaving it in a car

- Do not expose your HRM to extremes of temperature above 122 degrees Fahrenheit (to degrees Celsius) or below 14 degrees Fahrenheit (-10 degrees Celsius)

Replacing the Transmitter Battery-

Undo the battery hatch with a suitable coin and remove the old battery.  Ensure that the new battery is inserted into the hatch correctly with the plus sign facing the battery hatch.  Check the rubber gasket is clean, correctly fitted and not damaged, then close the hatch securely.

Replacing the Watch Receiver Battery-

The watch receiver should be returned to a jewelry shop or an Authorized Cardiosport Service Center.

TROUBLESHOOTING

What if the heart rate reading is erratic or totally absent?

Repeat the electrode moistening procedure.  The electrodes must be moist to pick up accurate heart rate readings.

Make sure the electrodes are flat against the skin.

What if the heart rate reading becomes erratic or becomes extremely high (above 200)?

When exercising with your Profile HRM you may come within range of other electromagnetic signals, causing the heart rate reading to elevate to abnormal levels.  Common sources of electromagnetic signals are high voltage power lines and motor driven equipment.  Signals from other people wearing transmitter belts (within 80 cm) can also cause incorrect readings.  Check your surroundings and move away from the source.
